Trust

                                Trust

Sherri, Ross, Adalia,

Madeline, Arianna

"A man is never more truthful than

when he acknowledges himself

 a liar." Mark Twain

On the shore...

"Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall....

Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

How can I even try
I can never win
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I'm in..."

 Trust:

Uni-T: Trust is built from

companionship

Thesis: Trust can only be found in

the comfort of the sincere.

Evidence:

'"Please take it," says I, "and don't ask me nothing- then I won't have to tell no lies."'

When Huck talks to the Judge about the $4,000, he asks that she takes it so he won't have to lie.

Although Huck lies repeatedly throughout the book to protect himself and Jim, he doesn't want to. Huck compromises himself to adhere to and function in a untruthful world.

In a society where Huck can trust no one, he doesn't want to turn himself into a liar too. If Huck lies, he can't even trust himself.

He only finds trust when there are no lies, but only truth.

Evidence: On the Shore

Huck's ability to trust others has grown to such a high point due to the fact that his friendship with Jim grows everyday.

As long as he stayed on the river, the trust will

always transcend to a higher relationship.

When the King and the Dauphin joined Huck and Jim on their adventure, everything that was established became lost. All trust that was built became overcome with lies and deception.

The King and the Dauphin did their best work on shore and it was on land that Huck released all trust he had for man.

Evidence: On the River

"All right then- I'll go to hell."

This shows that even though Huck     cannot find trust in anyone, he can be trusted himself.

Despite the rest of society and their tendencies to betray and lie, Huck       can be trusted.

With this quote, he shows that there's nothing that could come between the friendship between himself and Jim.

Sound Heart vs. Conscience

Conscience: What society says is right

Sound Heart: What he feels is right

As Huck struggled with his conscience and learning the difference between right and wrong, he stumbles upon heart. Society proves to be no match for friendship. What matters the most to him is that he can be trusted when friends (Jim) need him the most.

Down the River...

If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
I'll be the light to guide you

Find out what we're made of
What we are called to help our friends in need

You can count on me like one, two, three
I'll be there and I know when I need it
I can count on you like four, three, two
And you'll be there 'cause that's what friends
Are supposed to do, oh yeah, ooh, ooh

If you toss and you turn and you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Everyday I will remind you
Find out what we're made of
What we are called to help our friends in need

You'll always have my shoulder when you cry
I'll never let go, never say goodbye
You can count on me 'cause I can count on you
